Simon Antrobus will be joining the RNIB as their new CEO from early 2026, following Matt Stringer’s unexpected announcement in April 2025 that, after seven years, he was stepping down to pursue other opportunities. Simon’s career includes being the Chief Executive of BBC Children in Need since November 2016, as well as holding senior roles at Parkinson’s UK and Scope.
In an RNIB article, Simon commented on his appointment as their new CEO: “I am immensely proud to be joining RNIB in early 2026 as its new Chief Executive and to continue its vital work in supporting blind and partially sighted people. “I am excited by the opportunity to lead the charity to relentlessly pursue its goals, extend reach and impact with its services and to help bring about social change so that blind and partially sighted people can live life without limits. As well as positioning RNIB at the forefront of informing the national debate around eye health and eye care.”
Over the past years, we have seen the diminishing provisions of services from RNIB, the reduction of their workforce, particularly for those with visual impairment and a relentless desire to launch campaigns along with lengthy reports, without much evidence of their effectiveness.
Like Matt, Simon’s background is not from the sight-loss sector; he is credited with having a lot of experience within different charities, rather than a corporate background. Let us see what changes he will bring in for us!
