About Eye Matter

At Eye Matter, we are dedicated to individuals navigating the challenges of visual impairment. Our primary goal is to provide a platform for fostering active, fun lives while offering unwavering support from our community of visually impaired members and volunteers.

Since its inception in November 2018, Eye Matter has evolved into a dynamic and impactful community. In March 2023, we proudly achieved the milestone of becoming a registered charity, marking a significant step in our journey towards enhancing the lives of individuals living with a visual impairment.

Behind our success is the dedication of our founder, Suzie. Her vision and passion led to the introduction of the “Living Well with Sight Loss” course at her local hospital trust, generously sponsored by the Royal Free Charity until December 2022.

When the world faced unprecedented challenges in the form of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Suzie adapted swiftly by moving all Eye Matter’s activities online via Zoom. Under her guidance, the community flourished, with some weeks featuring an impressive nine meetings conducted virtually. In February 2022, she ushered in a new chapter by reintroducing face-to-face meet-ups.

Today, Eye Matter continues to thrive under Suzie’s leadership, offering a diverse and engaging program of 4-5 weekly Zoom meetings, in addition to at least one monthly in-person meet-up. Suzie’s commitment to infusing excitement and variety into our activities ensures that there is something for everyone within our vibrant community.

From audio-described museum visits to theatre outings, sporting activities, comedy nights, dancing, and concerts, our packed calendar of social activities is full of opportunities for our members to experience the richness of life. These activities are meticulously organized to ensure inclusivity and accessibility for everyone.

Eye Matter extends its heartfelt gratitude to the National Lottery Community Fund for their invaluable support. With their help, we continue to serve as a pillar of strength for our community both in person and through the virtual realm.
