I am so proud to be a trustee and volunteer for Eye Matter. I was introduced to the charity by a visually impaired friend and can honestly say that finding the connection, support and breadth of online and in person opportunities the charity offers has been life changing for me. Losing my Sight unexpectedly was an incredibly lonely distressing and traumatic time but becoming a part of the Eye Matter Family has meant that I found people across the UK and beyond who really understand what it is like to live with sight loss.
Eye Matter has given so much back to me; including Music and teaching singing. I am delighted to lead the Eye Matter Singers in twice yearly projects to sing for fun and well-being that culminate in concerts for family and supporters. I would never have imagined that I would make so many friends, attend so many different outings to museums, galleries, theatre let alone activity Holidays, or that I would learn to abseil, climb The O2 and go headfirst down a zipwire. In return, I’m so glad that I can put my experience of working within the charity sector to use supporting Eye Matter in a myriad of ways as a volunteer. Eye Matter is unique because it is run by visually impaired people for visually impaired people, almost all of whom are like me, volunteers.
