Method
Creating the tomato sauce:
- Using a hob gently cook the onions in a small slice of butter untill they are soft.
- Add in the tinned tomatoes and chopped onion (alternatively use ready chopped fresh or frozen onions), herbs (fresh or dried), tomato ketchup and tomato puree.
- Alternatively this can be all placed into a container suitable for a microwave or air-fryer and cooked for several minutes until the onions are soft..
Creating your protein or meat substitute:
- Brown your meat, or chicken in some oil or butter.
- adding a sprinkle of gravy granules and herbs.
- If using an air-fryer or microwave, ensure using a suitable dish, stop and stir several times to ensure it is completely cooked.
- When the meat is thoroughly cooked add into the sauce and stir to combine all ingredients.
- There is an option to use fish either tinned or fresh but if raw ensure thoroughly cooked before combining with the tomato sauce.
Creating your white (cheese) sauce:
- In a pan on the hob melt butter or margarine. (An alternative is using a microwave).
- Add 2 tsp of flour. Stir in and add a little milk to make a paste..
- Add another cup of milk (2 cups for a family sized portion).
- Continue Stirring either on the hob or by stopping the microwave several times.
- Grate some cheese into the white sauce (If you do not want cheese, you can leave it out).
Preparing your cooking appliance:
- Turn on oven 160(Gas mark 5)
- If you are using the air fryer or microwave, cook on a low temperature.
Creating the layers of lasagna:
- Using a suitable dish for your appliance first ladle a layer of the combined tomato sauce.
- Cover with a layer of the dried or fresh sheets.
- Repeat this process until there is only a small space left at the top.
- Depending on the depth of your utensil it could be two or three layers high.
- Carefully pour or ladle over the thick white (or cheese) sauce over the last layer of tomato sauce.
- Sprinkle grated cheese over the top (optional).
Cooking your lasagna:
- Place into the oven for twenty five minutes or until golden brown.
- If you are using the microwave or air-fryer, you may need to turn this up gradually, cooking for about fifteen to twenty minutes.
- If you are not able to see whether the food is cooked. Use a knife or fork. If it goes through easily you know, the pasta is soft and cooked..
