Emily’s Second Concert

Described as ‘lovingly divine‘, Emily once again entertained Eye Matter with an eclectic range of songs.

Nearly 20 members welcomed Emily Raiher back to Eye Matter on Tuesday evening (14th April). She began on the guitar, with a song from Nina Simone, before switching

to the piano to deliver an “absolutely stunning “performance of ‘I keep on falling’ by Alicia Keys. Other songs included ‘Cheek to Cheek’ by Ella Fitzgerald, written by Irving Berlin for ’Top Hat’ (1935), originally performed by Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. ‘Once in my life’ by Stevie Wonder on the guitar showed her energy and love of performing for this select group. One member said.“That was my favourite Stevie Wonder song, and although I’ve actually seen Alicia Keys six times live, I equally enjoyed your performance!”

Emily left us all spellbound after giving a pitch-perfect rendition of Amy Winehouse’ ‘Back to Black’. Answering one member’s concern about saying a word often bleeped out, by choosing to alter its pronunciation, paying homage to its true integrity. Similar to Amy Winehouse, Emily’s voice was described as “old-fashioned and authentic”, providing each song with a rich, toned, natural yet unique sound. George was” delighted and enthralled listening to Emily’s music.”

Once again, Emily and Suzie encouraged members to suggest their own songs, which included Adele and Whitney Houston. Amrit chose Emily Sanders, ‘read all about it’, before Emily closed with a beautiful, haunting performance of “Cry Me a River”.

She acknowledged the lovely spirit emanating from Eye Matter, which one member recognised in the warmth from her performance of each song. Admitting to feeling unusually excited for this year’s winter when Emily will be performing live at Eye Matters’ Winter Extravaganza in December. However, Eye Matter does not have to wait till then to hear Emily again. She will be returning on 28th July for another Zoom concert. Members have already requested: ‘Rumour has it’ by Adele, anything from Cara Emerald, Miley Cyrus ‘Malibu’ (acoustic version) and Joni Mitchell “Both sides now” and anything from Olivia Dean.
