Sports Day, June 2026

On Saturday 20th June we had 20 visually impaired participants and volunteers attending our third annual sports day at Islington Sports and Tennis centre.  After introductions and a warmup with Louise from Illuminate Freedom, participants were divided into smaller groups and paired with volunteers if required.  This allowed equal interaction with the four available sports.

Mark Bullock who has years of experience coaching disability tennis was on court with a range of equipment and of course sound balls.  On the furthers pitch was baseball, who had travelled down from Manchester to join us.  Showdown, based in Croydon, supervised by Robin and Tom, on the first pitch.  Behind them was football delivered by Louise from Illuminate Freedom.

Ibrahim said, “Marla and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, I particularly liked the tennis and baseball experiences and I’m going to be investigating those further. The day was well organised, efficiently run and I have learned a few things about myself that I didn’t know before, chiefly that I can run a little bit.”

Carrie wrote, “I really enjoyed being at the sports day today.  I particularly enjoyed the tennis and baseball. Many thanks to all who supported us including my guide Natasha and Suzie for organising the day.”

Another member agreed, “It was a really nice day. Thanks to all the volunteers and staff, who were amazing supporting everyone.”

Thank you once again to all coaches and volunteers.
