On Thursday 26th June, Eye Matter invited a number of members and volunteers to attend a special audio described tour of the ‘Frameless’ exhibition.
Natasha, who has also provided financial support for our grief counselling programme said, ”Last week, I had the privilege of volunteering for the first time with Eye Matter, the charity I chose to support using the £2,000 long service award I received for 20 years at the company. I made full use of the benefit by donating the full amount to Eye Matter—a charity that supports blind and visually impaired people—and then followed it up with hands-on volunteering as a sighted guide.”
Joining our team of volunteers to guide members around the four galleries, based in Marble Arch, Natasha explained, “I spent the day as a sighted guide at a private tour of the Frameless exhibition in London, helping a group of blind visitors experience the immersive art installations. I was paired with a wonderful gentleman named Ricky, who lost his sight at the age of 16. The experience was made even more special by the guide leading the tour—he had created his own script, describing each painting in vivid, personal language. His descriptions of colour were especially powerful, helping the group form a clear mental image of each artwork. It was a beautiful example of accessibility and creativity coming together.”
She concluded, “This experience was not only personally rewarding—it also deeply resonated with my professional focus on eyewear and vision care. Supporting a charity that empowers people with visual impairments brought a new level of meaning to the work I do every day.
